Challenging differences
The case of the Greek-Finnish marriage
Abstrakti
A mixed marriage can be understood as a challenge. By embodying the question of difference, it challenges the social, cultural and symbolical values of a given society. This paper reviews the question of difference as a threefold phenomenon. I will start by discussing the ontological and social levels of the notion of ”mixed marriage”. In the second part of my paper, I will present empirically how the question of difference is dealt with in the Greek-Finnish marriage1.
